Studio 54 glamour revived by Halston

The Museum of Modern Art, New York was the stage on which models lounged, reclining on low slung grey couches like Grecian goddess swathed in colossal columns of chiffon, silk and jersey for the Halston's Spring/Summer collection 09.

The second collection since the labels revival by Jimmy Choo’s Tamara Mellon and movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, Halston is clearly weathering the storm of early critical reviews and the departure of chief designer Marco Zanini earlier this summer.

The collection mined the heritage of its signature 70’s style and the glamour of the Studio 54 days, namely the evening gowns worn by followers such as Bianca Jagger, Angelica Huston, Lauren Bacall, and Elizabeth Taylor.

Halston’s palate for the S/S 09 collection was peppered with sophisticated neutrals such as, mauves, putties and creams seen against brighter hues of startling orange, fuschia pink, poppy red and cool blues. Use of slouch spaghetti straps, wide gathering gypsies necklines and asymmetric off the shoulder evening gowns, paid homage to a classic laid back 70’s vibe.

Glamour was deployed throughout with expansive, yet light-weight luxurious fabrics, artfully cut on the basis, fluidly draping around the models gracious forms.
